Children and young people who have experienced trauma are often very poorly understood, they have been through adverse experiences, abuse or neglect and have a variety of needs including a mixture of trauma, attachment, mental health, neurodevelopment, educational and social needs. Grown ups who care for or support vulnerable children and young people need to understand their often complex needs, developing a range of strategies to help a child manage their feelings and experiences.
I have provided intensive support for over 20 years to children and young people who are vulnerable and am passionate about helping parents, kinship and foster carers and schools to understand the impact of trauma on their development and presentation as well as the complexity of their needs.
I offer a range of services to assist statutory and voluntary agencies and community groups to meet the needs of our most vulnerable children and young people and to support and empower the adults who care for them.
Evidence suggests that experiencing adversity or trauma has a lasting impact on educational outcomes, beyond the point of being in need. Educational attainments of Children in Care and Vulnerable Pupils in need of help and protection is nearly half that of their peers and they often experience compounding disadvantage – with high numbers of Children in Need assessed as having Special Educational Needs (SEN) and many experiencing Social, Behavioural, Emotional and Wellbeing Needs (SBEW Needs).
Poor outcomes are not inevitable - I am passionate about supporting improved outcomes for our most vulnerable pupils by providing child centred evidence based interventions, innovative solutions and building staff capacity as well as coordinating multi-agency support teams ensuring that our most vulnerable pupils have access to the world-class education they deserve.
